Launch of BASHH guidelines

We achieved widespread national and global media coverage for British Association of Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) guidelines on an unknown STI called Mycoplasma genitalium (MGen). We managed to create a media hook for the guideline launch by simultaneously surveying both BASHH clinicians to highlight their concerns that MGen could become a ‘superbug’,  and local authorities to show that they were not making provisions for implementation of the guideline.  Moreover, by working with BASHH MGen experts we were able to estimate the number of women that could be at increased risk of infertility as a result of MGen infection. Coverage was achieved with major broadcasters including Women’s Hour, Victoria Derbyshire, The Today Show, all major national newspapers, regional newspapers, and medical trade including the Lancet.
